Tall, thin, very old. Silver hair and beard (long enough to tuck into his belt). Purple cloak; high-heeled, buckled boots. Blue eyes, very long and crooked nose. Half-moon spectacles. Scar above left knee (looks like map of London Underground). Headmaster of Hogwarts. Order of Merlin, First Class, Grand Sorcerer, Chief Warlock, Supreme Mugwump, International Confederation of Wizards. Considered by many the greatest wizard of modern times. Particularly famous for his defeat of the dark wizard Grindelwald in 1945, for the discovery of the twelve uses of dragon's blood, and his work on alchemy with his partner, Nicolas Flamel. Enjoys chamber music and tenpin bowling.

Prof. Severus Snape

Greasy black hair, hooked nose, sallow skin, black cold and empty eyes. Snape teaches Potions but he'd rather be the Dark Arts teacher. Head of Slytherin.

Prof. Minerva McGonagall

Square glasses. Emerald cloak/emerald-green robe. Black hair drawn into a tight bun. Tall; stern face; long, pointed nose. Deputy Headmistress. Strict and clever. Head of Gryffindor. Teaches Transfiguration. Can turn into a tabby cat with markings around its eyes.

Prof. Quirrell

Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher. Stutters. Nervous young man. Met Vampires in the Black Forest and in Romania. Large purple turban (hidden inside was Voldemort). Died when Voldemort left him.

Prof. Sprout

Teaches Herbology. Dumpy little witch.

Prof. Binns

He is a ghost. Teaches History of Magic

Prof. Flitwick

Teaches Charms. Tiny little wizard.

Rubeus Hagrid

Keeper of Keys and Grounds at Hogwarts. Gamekeeper. Twice as tall as normal man and at least five times as wide. Long tangles of bushy black hair and beard. Black eyes. Loves dangerous beasts. Was at Hogwarts but got expelled at his third year. Had an oak wand; 16 inches, rather bondy (snapped in half when he got expelled; now part of his pink umbrella). Has a black boarhound called Fang.

Madam Hooch

Quidditch organizer. Short, gray hair; yellow eyes like a hawk.

Mr. Argus Filch

The caretaker.

Mrs. Norris

Mr. Filch's cat. Scrawny, dust-colored. Bulging, lamplike eyes (just like Filch's)

Is a Poltergeist. Little man witch wicked, dark eyes and a wide mouth. Fears the Bloody Baron.

Nearly Headless Nick (Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington)

In Gryffindor Tower. Wears a ruff. Has been a ghost for nearly 400 years.

Slytherin ghost. Horrible, blank-staring eyes; a gaunt face; robes stained with silver blood.
