Opera 6.1 Preview 2 for Linux/FreeBSD/PowerPC (PPC) build 251 -- Changelog
Don't forget Backing up important files before you install any update.
Here is the second preview of 6.1. It is located at:
Notes
- This is a preview. There may be bugs or other problems we have not identified yet. Please report your discoveries to bugs.opera.com and to the lists.
- The shared builds are made with Qt 3.0.4. There is a confirmed binary incompatibility between Qt 3.0.5 and the rest of the Qt 3.0.x series. Do no use the shared version with Qt 3.0.5
- There are still some font problems. We have identified a possible issue regarding the width of single line form elements. If it is too narrow then change the corresponding font in File | Preferences | Document
PPC version
- This is the first 6.1 build for linux-PPC. Please report any problems.
- The PPC version has been build on Yellow Dog Linux 2.3 with libqt-mt
- The static PPC version does not support plug-ins yet.
If you read this on the opera.beta newsgroup and want to make a posting regarding this package please cc it to opera.linux newsgroup because the Linux/UNIX team members monitor that list.
This preview is only announced on the maillist and newsgroups and has not been tested as much as it would have been if it had been an official release.
Changelog since preview 1 (build 248)
Fonts
Improved font switching:
- Better font substitution (which font should be used as a replacement for a font that wasn't able to display a specific character)
- Support for codepages (Chinese Simplified/Traditional, Japanese). This means that webpages encoded with an Eastern Asian encoding (like jis0208, big5, gb2312) will try to use a font with the same encoding.
- International fonts (Preferred font for a specific writing system) has been changed and improved. It will now work correctly for Eastern Asian Pages (differentiates between Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese and Japanese). The font selected for a specific writing system in "International Fonts" will now only be used as a replacement for a font that isn't able to display a character in this writing system
- Keep the font down at the baseline when switching font (we used to have an annoying effect of text jumping up and down. It was especially evident for Latin writing systems with extension characters (typically anything but English), like Czech, Polish, Norwegian and so on). Very system dependant problem. A system with "nice" fonts wouldn't have this problem anyway.
- Also solved various other, weird problems, like text being displayed without any space between the words.
Plug-ins
- The command line switch "-debugplugin" will now show all the plug-ins that are probed on startup. Can be useful to pinpoint problematic plug-ins. Java
- IBM Java should now work (CLASSPATH fix)
- Some improvements and bugfixes in the install scripts.
- Added improved java configuration in the preference dialog box. Will hopefully make the task simpler for many users.:
- Java does not hang Opera on exit.
- Java JNI debugging messages turned off unless the command line switch -debugjava is used.
Images
- The statically included png library will now use symbols that can not be picked up by a Qt in the shared version. If Qt wants to use png for skins there is a danger that the png version used in Opera is not the version Qt expects => controlled abort.
Preferences
- Fixed a typo in the "Append Text On Center Mousebutton Click" prefs. parsing option so that this option can be used.
- The default font set (activated by the Default button in the preference dialog box) is now the same on the "Document" and "Look" page of the pref. dialog box as it is when parsing fonts on startup.
UI
- Added some help text to the tab page of the print dialog where one can add a custom printer. This should help more users understanding how to use this tool.
- Fixed a tooltip problem that caused the tooltip not to be shown properly when one navigate the links in a page using the keyboard.
- Use regular arrow cursor in hotlist area
- Fixed a problem that caused the default address bar position (the position used when opening a new window) not to be saved when changed from View | Address bar
- Added code for FreeBSD and PPC only registration keys.
- Fixed a problem caused by a change in Qt3 that made it impossible to center some dialogs under the mouse when that option was selected in the preference dialog box.
- Do no select the text in the address entry field when a document is reloaded (the selection is removed right after this). The selection was copied to the clipboard.
- Added support for selecting default font by rightclicking with the mouse on an entry in the fontlist in the preference dialog box.
- Fixed a problem that caused the zoom level not displayed correctly in the help window menu bar.
- Corrected a problem that caused Opera to segfault when deleting private data when running in SDI window mode.
- Support for midclick pasting on the page toolbar (SDI mode) again.
- Fixed a problem with mouse gestures. A url with a relative name would be opened without the relative part.
- Do not remove selection in a framed document when copying the text to the clipboard (Ctrl+C)
Misc
- The static version now uses a Qt where the use of XkbSetPerClientControls() have been disabled. This caused problems on at least the RedHat 6.2 platform which did not have this extension by default.
- Added some security enhancements and a crash fix in the http protocol code.
